The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) played an important role in the years following WWII. Specifically, it was charged with the duty to disperse funds that were acquired from the liquidation of foreign assets of the former Japanese Imperial Army. The total amount that was eventually liquidated and dispersed came to two separate payments of £2,696,428 (plus 11 schillings and 5 pence) and $7,542,500. The details of this action are included in the Report on the Activity of the International Committee of the Red Cross for the Indemnification of Former Allied Prisoners of War in Japanese Hands.
